Edit Reels with Claude: The Prompt and Setup (HyperFrames, Remotion, MCP)

Here's the prompt from the YouTube video. Copy it, change it to fit you, and paste it into Claude Code. If you haven't set things up yet, the steps are below the prompt.

The prompt

We're going to build an Instagram Reels production factory for me in this folder.

1. Reference: I put Reels from creators I like in the references/ folder. Study each one and extract the style: editing pace (how often it cuts), caption style (font, color, word highlighting, position), transitions, motion graphics, use of zoom/punch-ins, music and sound effects, how the first 2 seconds hook the viewer, and how the video ends.

2. Rules: Write the style you extracted into this folder. Put the general rules in CLAUDE.md, and write the "make a Reel from raw footage" workflow as a skill. Make reusable parts (captions, end card, title animation) separate components.

3. Workflow: I'll drop raw videos into the raw/ folder. You will:
   - cut silences, and the places where I misspeak or repeat myself,
   - add captions synced to the speech,
   - add motion graphics that fit the topic,
   - export to the out/ folder as 9:16, 1080x1920.
   Use HyperFrames for editing.

4. Quality: Every output should match the same style. Before delivering, watch the video from start to finish: no caption drift, no cut-off words, no audio pops.

5. Learning: If anything is missing before you start, ask me. Turn every piece of my feedback into a rule so you don't repeat the same mistake.

Using Remotion? Change "Use HyperFrames for editing" to "Use Remotion for editing".

Setup

You need: the Claude desktop app, and a Pro plan or higher for Claude Code.

1. Set up the folder

  1. Create a folder on your computer, for example IG-reels. Inside it, create three folders:
    • references/: Reels you like
    • raw/: your own raw footage
    • out/: leave it empty; finished videos land here
  2. In Claude desktop, open the Code tab and pick this folder as the project folder.

2. Install Node.js and FFmpeg

  • Node.js: install the LTS version from nodejs.org (22 or newer).
  • FFmpeg: on Windows, run winget install --id Gyan.FFmpeg in a terminal. On Mac, run brew install ffmpeg.

Not sure? Ask Claude:

Check whether Node.js 22+ and FFmpeg are installed. If not, help me install them.

3. Install HyperFrames

Type this in the Code tab:

Install HyperFrames in this folder: https://github.com/heygen-com/hyperframes
After installing, render a short test video.

Or from a terminal:

claude plugin marketplace add heygen-com/hyperframes
claude plugin install hyperframes@hyperframes

Using Remotion instead? Type this:

Create a Remotion project in this folder and install Remotion's skills: https://www.remotion.dev/docs/ai/skills

From a terminal: npx create-video@latest, then npx remotion skills add inside the project folder. Remotion is free for individuals; companies with more than 3 people need a paid license.

4. Connect the MCPs (optional)

In Claude desktop, go to Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste the URL, click Connect, and sign in with that service's account. Connectors you add here also work in Claude Code.

MCPWhat forURL
vidIQAnalyzing videos and YouTube datahttps://mcp.vidiq.com/mcp
ElevenLabsGenerating sound effects and musichttps://api.elevenlabs.io/v1/mcp

Or from a terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http vidiq https://mcp.vidiq.com/mcp
claude mcp add --transport http elevenlabs https://api.elevenlabs.io/v1/mcp

Then type /mcp in Claude Code and sign in to each service. When it shows Connected, you're set.

vidIQ works with YouTube data; give Claude Instagram videos as files. Audio you generate with ElevenLabs uses your account's credits. Full ElevenLabs setup: ElevenLabs MCP guide.

5. Start

  1. Put the Reels you like in the references/ folder.

  2. Paste the prompt above into the Code tab. Claude writes the rules and asks if anything is missing.

  3. Drop your raw video into raw/ and type:

Edit the new video in the raw/ folder and export it to the out/ folder.
  4. Tell it what you don't like. Claude adds that to its rules, and the next videos get better.
